Each Spaces For Peace environment consists of landscape and architectural elements, the design of which is lead by George Hargreaves, the Design Director of Hargreaves Associates with offices in New York City-Cambridge-San Francisco-London.  Mr. Hargreaves’ strong design is rooted in forms evolved from ancient cultures to produce universal and timeless spaces that are awe-inspiring to people of all ages, while conveying the Spaces For Peace mission.

DESIGN-YOUR-OWN

SPACES FOR PEACE - PERMANENT SITE

IN THE PUBLIC REALM

Who may commission a Spaces For Peace© site?

Neighborhood and business groups, city and campus planners, park departments, developers, architects, community groups or individuals who wish to communicate Spaces For Peace’s philosophy of peace and nonviolence may commission a site from Spaces For Peace.

What comprises a Spaces For Peace site?

Thematic Components, which consist of excerpts, passages, quotes, graphics and visual art works that communicate the Spaces For Peace philosophy, have been assembled and are continually updated by a team of professional, specialized, and skilled experts from a variety of fields.

The writings and visual artworks, which make up the Thematic Components, are integrated into the architectural elements of each of our permanent sites in order to convey the educational message of your magical and elegant Spaces For Peace to your community.  Architectural elements may include aesthetic sculptural forms of glass, granite, and bronze/metals.

Architectural features of each Spaces For Peace site typically also include a custom designed “Spaces For Peace Active Circle”© for community activities and a “Spaces For Peace Green Space”© for personal reflection, plus an open-structure to shelter visitors from the elements of rain, snow or sun.

How do I create a Spaces For Peace© site?

You and your stakeholding group, who are interested in commissioning a Spaces For Peace site, will work with us to select an appropriate public space in your city, town, region, or campus for your permanently installed site.  Spaces For Peace does not own the site; your community owns the site.

Your group will also participate in creating the content of each Spaces For Peace site, which is made up of the Spaces For Peace “Core Site” of Thematic Components plus the Spaces For Peace “Beyond-the-Core Site” of Thematic Components.

FIRST: THE “CORE SITE”: Thematic Components #1-4

Every Spaces For Peace site will include the four fundamental building blocks of the “Core Site”, which are:

  1. PEACE: LIVING PEACEABLY AND ALTERNATIVES TO VIOLENCE
Historical, anthropological and everyday examples of nonviolence alternatives from ancient tribal cultures to contemporary society
  2. NONVIOLENCE:  THE NONVIOLENT WAY OF LIFE
The methodology, tools and teaching of the 6 principles, and the 6 steps of nonviolence, as developed by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and other nonviolent practitioners
  3. INCLUSION:  Skin-deep presumptions and the invented construction of 'race’
  4. THE LEAP IS IN YOUR MIND
The human potential, or the psychological ability of human beings to expand their world, for a nonviolent culture

SECOND: WE DO THE RESEARCH, YOU DO THE CREATING

When your community begins the commissioning process for a Spaces For Peace site you and your stakeholders will collaborate in the design of the content or subject matter of each of your chosen Thematic Components.  Spaces For Peace will provide you with an extensive collection of writings and visual artworks, from which you will select excerpts, passages, quotes, graphics and visual art works to customize the information for the ‘Core Site’ that your community wishes to express.  This inclusive process gives a meaningful, creative experience for the members of your community, as well as a sense-of-ownership of your Spaces For Peace site.

THIRD: “BEYOND-THE-CORE”:  Thematic Components #5-14

Make your Spaces For Peace site unique in the world by selecting those Thematic Components from the ”Beyond-the Core” list that best communicates your community’s outlook.

PRICING: Each Spaces For Peace “Core Site” and “Beyond-the-Core Site” Thematic Component (#1-14) is a fixed price.  Every Spaces For Peace site contains the Core Site, plus any “Beyond-the-Core” Thematic Components that you choose.

Your group may physically expand upon any single Thematic Component by adding writings and visual artworks from the Spaces For Peace Thematic Component collection.  Additional items from the Collection are priced individually.

THE RESULT: Your city, town or campus’s in-the-public Spaces For Peace site will be unique in the world by communicating your community’s vital outlook.
